Farmers' knowledge of marketing practices of onion crop in Sohag governorate, Egypt

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the respondents’ knowledge of marketing practices of onion crop, 37 marketing practices were chosen from extension publications, and used for conducting the field research, أعلى النموذج<  <This research was conducted on a sample of 300 respondents from onion growers in three districts in Sohag governorate, Egypt, data were collected using questionnaire forms during the period from October to December 2021, frequencies, percentage and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient used for were data presentation and analysis, the most important results can be summarized as follows: More than half of the respondents (56.3%) fall in the age group from 27 to less than 43 years; more than quarter of the respondents (28.7%) are illiterate; the remaining percentage (71.3%) have different levels of education; nearly two thirds of the respondents (65.6%) have experience years in onion cultivation ranged from 2 - to less than 17 years; the majority of respondents (81.7%) have a low usage of information sources; the respondents have low knowledge of five practices ranged between 45% for packing onions in carton boxes, and 48.7% as for the exercise of excluding the bulbs which started to germinate and there is a significant correlation at 0.01 level between respondents’ knowledge of onion marketing practices and the studied independent variables.
